There seems to be a conflict wherein if you have VLC media player installed and play a round of Bejeweled Blitz offline PC version, the game will freeze and a little black window seemingly coming from VLC appears. Both the game and the other window are unresponsive.
The only solution I am aware of is uninstalling VLC.

Games played: A bunch of PopCap games such as Insaniquarium, Zuma and Bookworm Adventures.
Games modified: Most of the played games, at least once, either a long time ago, or more recently.

Ah yes, I remember back when downloadable Bejeweled Blitz was a thing. Apart from Bejeweled Twist, it was the first to use a contemporary design that is also used for the mobile versions (well, if you exclude Stars, that one sucks.) and I took some of my free time playing the game. Nowadays, it's rare to see this happening again, especially since it will obviously not work with anything besides Windows 7...and in a world where we use Windows 10 most of the time...

...especially since it will obviously not work with anything besides Windows 7...and in a world where we use Windows 10 most of the time... I read somewhere that Windows 8 deprecated some DirectX functions that the PopCap framework relied on, resulting in hardware acceleration compatibility being hit or miss (works on some systems, does not work on others) in Windows versions newer than Windows 7. And note that many of such games also work on Windows XP and Vista, and some of the older titles also run on Win9x/2K. Back to the main topic here, I suspect VLC was catching calls to load an SWF file used in the game to display the results.
